Episode #1 “Go to the West – Haruka naru Nishi e”

It was the foundation of civilization and religion, Togenkyo. It was a land of peace and tranquillity, where humans and youkai lived together……….

But now, the appearance of someone who is plotting the revival of the great youkai Gyumao is destroying the balance. Due to the effects of the Gyumao Revival experiment, a minus wave has shrouded the land, causing the youkai to lose themselves, going out of control and attacking humans one after another!

The Priest of the Northern Lord, Genjyo Sanzo is given the order from Heaven to stop the revival of Gyumao. He sets off with three companions, who, while being youkai, have not been affected by the minus wave—yes, Son Goku, Sha Gojyo, Cho Hakkai. The story of their adventures begins as they travel to the far off capital of Tenjiku. Believe your own eyes, believe your own heart……. Now, behold “Difficulties Resolved on the Journey to the West”!!

Episode #2 “First Game – Tasogare e no Annainin”

In Houtou Castle in Tenjiku, Kougaiji swears firmly in his heart that he will save his mother, Rasetsu-Nyo, who was sealed by a curse.

Meanwhile, Sanzo and company have arrived in the city of Kouchin, where they end up staying in the inn managed by the father of the most excellent cook, Houmei. That same night, a group claiming to be traveling performers also stays in the inn, but that group is actually a group of assassin youkai, sent by Kougaiji.

Episode #3 “His god My God – Kami no Iru Basho”

Sanzo and company gain permission to stay one night in a temple deep in the mountains. In this temple where everyone has pure lineage and is very pious, they live a lifestyle that emphasizes learning and purification and forbids liquor and tobacco, as such things are vanity.

Such being the case, the priests at the temple are shocked at the behavior of Sanzo and company, as someone is always smoking or drinking. During this time, an assassin youkai appears, ready to attack Sanzo Ikkou. But in this temple, which has never suffered attack from youkai or other villains, and which teaches that taking life is wrong, there is nothing even resembling a weapon. The priests are attacked without being able to fight back.……

Episode #4 “Crimson – Akane-Iro no Namida”

Continuing their travels, Sanzo Ikkou chances upon the house of a girl named Shunrei. Shunrei continues to wait faithfully for her lover, a youkai who disappeared about a year ago; as if he could come home at any time, she does the laundry and cleaning every day. The instant Gojyo hears that this youkai is named Jien, he starts acting strange. Because actually, Jien is the name of his half brother. Hearing that a youkai who looks a lot like Jien has been seen attacking people in the forest to the west, Shunrei runs off without a second thought.

Episode #5 “Pure assassin – Utsukushiki Ansatsu-sha”

Wanting to be of service to Kougaiji in eliminating Sanzo and company, one of his direct subordinates, Yaone, offers to go after them personally. Yaone was indebted to Kougaiji for saving her from the cruel Hyakugan Mao.

Yaone comes up with a plan to wait for them at a tavern they were approaching and poison their food, and that opportunity arises, but when she is saved by the Ikkou from some of the customers and her resolve is shaken. Even so, Yaone still wants to be of service to Kougaiji…….

Episode #6 “Rancorous exchange – Jufu no Kaisou”

Sanzo Ikkou, being rained on, makes their way to an inn, but on their way, they come across the corpses of youkai defeated by Rikudo, a priest who uses charms to destroy any youkai in his path.

In the middle of that night, a youkai invades the inn’s kitchen. Sanzo Ikkou fights. Before them appears Rikudo, who turns out to be Sanzo’s senior apprentice, Shuei, completely changed.

Episode #7 “Good night – Tasogare no Wakare”

Seeing Sanzo sustain a severe injury, Goku completely forgets himself and the diadem that served as his youkai power limiter shatters. Having lost his limiter, Goku attacks the enemy Shuei, and his power is so great that it burns up Shuei’s charms. Seeing that he is at the disadvantage, Shuei retreats, but Goku, having forgotten himself, attacks Gojyo and Hakkai, without discrimination. The one to stop his rampage was the merciful goddess Kanzeon Bosatsu, come down from Heaven.

Brought back by Kanzeon Bosatsu, Sanzo resolves to go by himself to release Shuei from the curse and then defeat him.

Episode #8 “Confront – Shi o Uranau Otoko”

Arriving in a town that’s holding a bazaar, Sanzo Ikkou encounters a suspicious fortune teller who uses Mahjong tiles, Chin Yisou. In guessing Hakkai’s past very accurately, Chin Yisou irritates the company with his smug attitude. There suddenly appeared a giant crab shikigami. The company tries to fight. Before they can, a girl gets in their way and takes care of the shikigami in one blow, but this girl happens to be not only Kougaiji’s half sister, but one of his direct subordinates, Lirin.

Episode #9 “Lethal trap – Tatakai no Utage”

Goku, Gojyo, and Hakkai fight Kougaiji and his subordinates. But their opponents are pretty strong.

In the middle of the battle, Kougaiji learns of Goku’s bottomless strength as he (Goku) fights for only himself and erases all confusion from his mind.

During that time, the giant crab shikigami appears before them again.

Episode #10 “FAKE THE FACE – Itsuwari no Kyuuseishu”

In this village, there is a legend that Sanzo Houshi saved them during a time of crisis long ago. Coincidentally, Sanzo Ikkou receives a warm welcome from the village, but at the same time, a fake Sanzo Ikkou arrives. The villagers, confused, for some reason take the fake Ikkou for the real one, and lock the real Ikkou up in prison. That night, a youkai appears in the village.

Episode #11 “Tragic revenge – Warau Shinigami”

At night, Hakkai is troubled by nightmares, and, waking up, goes off to think about things. Gojyo starts to talk to Hakkai, but just then, Chin Yisou’s familiar appears and plants the seed of a bloodsucking inside Gojyo.

Because the seed is planted close to Gojyo’s heart, they can’t remove it, but Sanzo appears and shoots the seed out with his exorcism gun. Gojyo is brought back to life, but this time, Goku and Hakuryu, having been sent by Sanzo to get water, go missing.

Episode #12 “Wandering destiny – Yami to no Koubou”

Chin Yisou’s goal is to destroy the spirit of Hakkai, who destroyed his clan. Leaving behind the injured Goku and Gojyo, Hakkai sets off with Sanzo to challenge Chin Yisou. In the silence, Hakkai seems to have had all confusion destroyed by Sanzo. However, falling victim to Chin Yisou’s jutsu, Hakkai attacks Sanzo against his will.

Episode #13 “Crude counterfeit – Shi o yobu kajitsu”

Visiting a certain temple, Sanzo Ikkou spies the strange Ninjinka tree growing on the temple grounds. There appear two of the disciples at the temple, Chinpu and Mingetsu. According to their story, the chief priest set out with all the other disciples about a month ago, leaving only the two of them.

Complaining of hunger, Goku tries to eat the mysterious food provided at the temple, but, unable to shake off their feelings of mistrust, Sanzo and others drag him away from the temple by force.

Episode #14 "Sweet client - Futari no Yakusoku"

Sanzo Ikkou has arrived at a certain town. Gojyo meets a young girl who for some reason will not leave his side. Gojyo is upset because he wants to go pick up women, but the girl says that her parents were attacked by a youkai and she wants to avenge them, so they go to the youkai's hideout together. They realize, however, that something is not right about this youkai's hideout.

Episode #15 "Fated guys - Aka no Jubaku"

Sanzo Ikkou gets stuck in the rain and has no choice but to camp out. While watching the rain fall, Gojyo remembers the events of three years ago.

-On a rainy day three years ago, Gojyo happens to help the young man, "Cho Gonou," who had collapsed on the side of the road. Seeing that Gonou was severely injured, he decides to look after him until his wounds healed.

Meanwhile, Sanzo is ordered by the Three Aspects to find a man who had recently killed hundreds of youkai and take him into custody. That criminal is the very Cho Gonou that Gojyo rescued.

Episode #16 "Be there - Seija e no Sanka"

Gonou escapes into the forest, set on accomplishing one final thing, and is confronted by a crow man who bears a grudge against him for killing his clan. The crow man attacks Gonou, intent on avenging his brother. However, he is overwhelmed by the intensity of Gonou, who disregards his own body to the point of injuring himself. Then, Sanzo, Goku, and Gojyo, who had been following him, appear.

Episode #17 "Eden - Owarinaki Rakuen"

Upon arriving at the youkai town, Toufuugai, at the bottom of a steep canyon, Sanzo Ikkou is shocked at seeing rows of petrified youkai. Just then, Goku and the others, who are youkai after all, are turned into stone. Sanzo, the only one left, is led to meet the leader of the town, Muhan, by Muhan's servant Kouran.

Episode #18 "Vice or Justice - Seigi no Shinjitsu"

Recently, there have been many reports of youkai going missing. Yaone obtains Kougaiji's permission to go investigate.

Meanwhile, Sanzo Ikkou runs into Gojyo and Hakkai's old friend Tonpu. Tonpu tells them that he has taken initiative and joined Fanlong, a private army created by humans in order to exterminate youkai. The Ikkou parts ways with Tonpu after promising to meet again the next day.

That evening, Yaone is captured by the army when she goes to their camp to investigate.

Episode #19 "Don't go alone - Nageki no Otome-tachi"

Sanzo Ikkou happens to come across four beautiful sisters on their journey, and find kindred spirits in the sisters. But Sanzo alone says that they should not get too deeply involved with them. They part ways, but Sanzo Ikkou's lives are immediately targeted by something.

Actually, the sisters are trying to kill Sanzo Ikkou in order to help their eldest sister, who was possessed by a parasite youkai when she tried to save them.

Episode #20 "Sandstorm - Ryuusa no Wana"

Looking for a youkai that is said to have eaten a Sanzo Houshi, Sanzo Ikkou visits the desert and gets swallowed by quicksand.

Believing the rumor that eating a virtuous priest will grant you ageless immortality, the youkai tries to eat Sanzo, but is enraged by Sanzo's attitude.

Meanwhile, Goku and the others, who have been imprisoned elsewhere, are fighting the countless scorpions that have invaded their cell.

Episode #21 "Selfish - Hametsu e no Bousou"

In order to revive Gyumao, it is necessary to obtain the five sutras guarded by Sanzo priests. Learning the whereabouts of one such sutra, Kougaiji and Dokugakuji go to the desert, and happen to run into Sanzo Ikkou.

Goku wants to help Sanzo, who is on the verge of death from a lethal dose of scorpion poison, as quickly as possible, but Kougaiji dares challenge him to a deathmatch.

Episode #22 "Devastation - Tatakai no Hate"

In order to defeat the powerful Kougaiji, Goku has taken off his youkai power limiting diadem, but now he can no longer see his allies nor hear their voices. In his frightening rage and cruelty, Goku attacks everything in sight. No one can stop his frenzy. Then, Sanzo, who is on the verge of death, stands up…….

Episode #23 "Scapegoat - Fukujuu no Daika"

Arriving at a village with a giant cannon, Sanzo Ikkou happens across the village's ceremony offering a sacrifice to the local youkai. Sanzo Ikkou is shocked at the anachronism, but the instant Hakkai sees the victim's face, his own face freezes. She looked just like his departed lover Kanan!

Episode #24 "Mother - Aka no Kizuna"

In a certain village, Goku and Gojyo, who have gone out to buy groceries, they encounter the human woman, Yanmin. Yanmin was raising her baby as a single parent, but the baby's hair and eyes are red, like Gojyo's. Yanmin's husband is a youkai.

Yanmin is treated coldly by the villagers, who say she's given birth to a monster. Ni Jianyi notices the sadness and hatred in her heart…….

Episode #25 "Tomfool! Tomboy! - Senritsu no Shikaku"

Lirin has again appeared to challenge Sanzo Ikkou. With her "Operation: Nikuman on the Road," she plans to distract Sanzo Ikkou by leaving some nikuman in the middle of the road as a decoy, but she fails. However, there is a group that does fall for her trick. They are three foolish youkai.

The three, having lost to her in battle, can't even get her to call them by their real names. They become her slaves and are forced to follow after Sanzo Ikkou.

Episode #26 "Calling - Todokazaru Sakebi"

Kougaiji's subordinates, the Iron Ogre Army, set out under Gyokumen Koushu's orders to kill Sanzo Ikkou. But they are defeated all too quickly by the overwhelming strength of Sanzo Ikkou.

The group takes a breather. However, according to the Iron Ogre Army leader's plan, Sanzo and Goku are sealed inside his armor.
